Re-Engagement & Focus

Adolescence often brings a ‘selective hearing’ phase. We focus on re-establishing that vital connection, teaching your dog that focusing on you is rewarding even with the distractions in the environment.

Proofing Life Skills

It’s time to take training out of the kitchen. We work on proofing your foundations – ensuring that lead walking, recall, and ‘settle’ behaviours remain reliable even when the world gets busy.

Impulse Control

Teenage dogs are full of big feelings and energy. We focus on impulse control and calm decision-making, helping your dog navigate excitement and frustration without losing their head

Navigating the Teenage Phase

Adolescence can feel like a step backward, but it is a vital developmental stage. At Derby House Dogs, we provide a supportive, judgement-free space for you to guide your dog through their ‘teenage’ months.

Led by our qualified IMDT and Easy Peasy Puppy Squeezy Instructors, our methods remain force-free. We don’t believe in ‘quick fixes’ or harsh corrections; we believe in giving you the tools to turn adolescent challenges into a rock-solid adult partnership.

Frequently Asked Questions

This course is designed for pups aged 6 to 8 months at the start of the term.

We recommend that puppies are suitably vaccinated before starting the course. Speak to your vet for personalised information.

Please bring a standard flat lead (no extendable leads), a well-fitted collar or harness, and a mat for your pup to settle on (if you’re lucky!).

We train outdoors in our enclosed, purpose-built field in Wrightington. This helps puppies learn to focus in a “real-world” environment from day one.

We train in most conditions (it’s great for proofing behaviours!), but we will notify you if extreme weather requires a session to be rescheduled.
